Here is a brief itinerary of the trip to Egypt:
Dec 30 – Fly out of Raleigh c. 5:00 PM (to Dulles, to Paris, to Cairo)
Dec 31 – Arrive in Cairo, 7 PM
Jan 1 – Tour of the Egyptian Museum
Jan 2 – Coptic Cairo; night performance of Sufi dancing
Jan 3 – Drive to Wadi Natrun monasteries
Jan 4 – tour of Islamic Cairo
Jan 5 – informal tours of Islamic Cairo
Jan 6 – Orthodox Christmas at St Mark’s Coptic Cathedral
Jan 7 – Pyramids of Giza, Saqqara, Memphis
Jan 8 – fly to Luxor; Karnak Temple
Jan 9 – Valley of the Kings, etc
Jan 10 – bus trip to the Hathor Temple at Dendera
Jan 11 – return to Cairo
Jan 12 – meetings in Cairo; leave for the airport at 11 PM
Jan 13 – fly out at 2:30 AM (Paris, Dulles… return to Raleigh 5:00 PM)
This blog will allow you to keep track of Wake Forest Divinity School's cultural immersion trip to Egypt. In addition to a pilgrimage to the Pyramids, Sphinx, Old Kingdom tombs, Medieval mosques, and Coptic monasteries, we will explore the history of the indigenous Coptic Orthodox church (with over 6 million current members) and the current role of Coptic and Protestant Christians in Egypt's political and religious environment. In between, we might try to have a little fun!

Hello all and Happy New Year! New Year's Eve in Cairo was surreal. We enjoyed a meal while listening to a DJ spinning 80s tunes, while a fog machine spewed and a disco ball rotated above the dance floor. We each received animal masks and party hats. I'm sure the pictures will be telling.
We just finished a tour of the Egyptian museum. Not unlike other museums, but fascinating.
